Downliners Sekt: Recommended (free) Music
Degourget is not a music blog, and we have no interest in turning it into one. However I was recently introduced to an album by a good friend, and have quickly become quite obsessed with. The album is Saltire Wave, by Downliners Sekt, and for the past week or so I’ve been itching to write something about it.
So what’s it like? well it’s moody, glitchy, dark and brooding, but not overly intense, like godspeed!youblackemperor. Some of it has a laid back trip-hop flavour, some of it is punchier breaks. But the album as a whole? Impressive and well crafted.
They sound like artists who have their roots in the electronic genre, but the album kicks off with some guitar licks and the rest of the album has some clear post rock influences – but not in a cliched way. It will definitely appeal to fans of Mogwai, Nine Inch Nails and 65daysofstatic.
The best part of all – its a completely free download. Yes a legal and free release. They are apparently ‘Bored as fuck with the music industry’ and choose to release their music for free. They have a good FAQ section on their site explaining their reasoning and philosophy.
Anyway the album is a lot more interesting than Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails) latest free offering. So give it a go.
