Here’s one for the budding photographers amongst you -LabourStart, “where trade unionists start their day on the net”, apparently, has a contest up on Flickr.
The LabourStart Labour Photo of the Year Contest wants your photos. Which photos I hear you ask?
“Photos should be, very broadly, of union members in action. At work, in struggle…surprise us! They must have a caption explaining the image”
So what’s in it for you? Well, they’re giving away a two year Flickr pro account and a chance to have the photos placed in labour magazines around the world. Less appealing is the chance to be displayed in the art gallery on union island in Second Life. Ummm, yeah. Second Life huh? Greeeeeeeeeat!
Personally, I was raised in a small business owning household and am the type of dictatorial boss who’s prone to fits of rage and screaming when confronted by the incompetence of my underlings, so unions aren’t really my thing, but i love myself some good anarchy and anti-authoritarian hijinks. Irony huh? Plus protests make for cool photos. Especially the juxtaposition of the current stormtrooper fascist wetdream outfits riot police wear with less suitably attired antagonists.
