Lower East Side Tapas Heaven

I’ve arrived. NYNY it’s about time I came back and it’s about time I ate some amazing Mexican food.

In Syd, we are gastronomically deprived in the way of decent street latino food, so since arriving in NYC one of my first missions was to get something con yum in mah belleh. Soon enough I have made one of the finest discoveries that is still yet to become the next queue down Houston…. Macondo!

Starting off, the vibe was somewhere down the Yucatan mixed in with Barcelonetta Beach. The drinks were of the more creative versions of margharitas, the tamarindo+tequila cocktail is a must while your sharing the calamari with the honey aoli…. and lets not miss out on the plantain balls with cuban slow cooked pork. Another winner was the Buenos Aires Cocas (flat bread) – Marinaded skirt steak, rocket, jalapeno, onions, cabrales cheese and chimichurri… Yummo!! I could go on and on, so for those who live near by (Houston and Allen) get in before you wait 2 hours (the word hasn’t hit as yet) and for those o/s read the menu and salivate discreetly.

Unfortunately the Dirty Mexican was left at home…

Macondo after the jump….

We sat here. There were cool armrests that you could lower and raise in all the super comfy couch seats!

This is the Green Room – at night all was dimly lit and changed colours…. so romantic especially after 5 cocktails… mmmm

If you happen to be in New York, you better give this place a try.
