SekaiCamera – Demonstrating Web 4.0?

This is an interesting video from Japan based mobile phone app developer, Tonchidot. The video demonstrates a prototype application (running on an iphone) that challenges the way we interact with the internet. Using the the iphone’s camera and GPS, the application overlays links, images, information etc over the picture on the screen to give a pretty convincing location based internet experience. This sort of idea used to be referred to as Augmented Reality, back in the 90′s VR helmet days. Anyway its a bit hard to explain, take a look at the video and you should get the concept.

The Sekai Camera (“World Camera” in Japanese) is a real-world interface for the iPhone that connects real and virtual worlds, allowing anybody to create, experience and participate in both.

Anyway, this kinda thing probably isn’t quite ready for the market yet. But I can see interaction with the net evolving into more of this kind of thing in the not too distant future. I for one, am very excited to see more stuff like this. I also want a jetpack.
