The Banksy ‘Deliverance Country Tour’ Begins

I imagine quite a few of you have already seen some of the work Bansky has been throwing up around New Orleans and into the Deep South, but for those that haven’t, we’ve put together a few pics for you.

The pieces are a mix of commentary on Katrina, the usual Banksy fair and a hat doff to Fred Radtke a New Orleans’ anti-graff campaigner known as the Gray Ghost after his habit of painting over graffitiwith gray paint, regardless of the underneath colour (don’t worry we’d never heard of him either

Obviously the DEGOURGET crew are complete Banksy fanboys. How can you not be really? The man’s work is visually appealing and mentally stimulating, what with the constant calling out of the emperor in the guise of our ever expanding state security apparatus and consumer culture.

To me, Banksy is like Homer Hudson ice cream, hard to find, but well worth the effort of tracking down. And if you happen to stumble upon some by accident? Oh the joy! A glorious grin shall break apart your normally miserable visage and scare the fuck out of everyone around you. That VJ sailor boy will have nothing on your style.

By it’s very nature Banksy’s work is temporary but I wonder how many of these new works will survive the impending doom Gustav is about to deposit on the city. Which makes you wonder just why people continue to live in a place like New Orleans where it seems like every other year there’s a very good chance that your home and all your worldly possessions will be completely obliterated. I put it down to quality hookers, cheap beer and amazing coffee. There can be no other possible explanation.
