Casio Calculator Watch Love

How freaking cool are calculator watches? Once upon a time it was only bestowed upon the nerd elite – now its a beaming must-have icon of worldwide hipsterdom. Not that I’m saying we want to be associated with some kind of sheeplike hipster wannabe – we were down with these when we used to argue hypothetical Star Wars battles in the school canteen.

All the current clothing labels have apparently caught on to the trend, even with mainstream companies like Paul Frank making their own ‘Retro 80′s Calculator Watches’.

Whatever cash-in they they may attempt, none of these appropriated toys have the that perfect low-tech unergonomic aesthetic of a vintage calculator watch

Calculator watches first appeared in the mid 70s introduced by Pulsar and Hewlett Packard. Several watch manufacturers have made them over the years but it was Japanese watch and calculator manufacturer Casio that made them famous. The famous Data Bank series are the ones that everyone is after these days.

We came across a goldmine of pictures of these wonderful watches over at Pocket Calculator Show.

We’ve got a heap of out favourite models, after the jump.
