Horse the Band – awesome me(n)tal music

In this day and age of where we are drowned in piles of commercial-indie-electro-rock, there really aren’t many bands coming out with any kind of challenging or original sound, that’s not already catering to a specific subculture or demographic.

Let me present to you, my beloved HORSE The Band. These guys did one of the best solo shows I saw in 2008 (which was part of their 45 country tour). And they are completely mental. With lots of shouting – they do sit on the more aggressive side of the musical fence – they don’t style themselves the way you’d expect, nor do they take themselves seriously as those kind of bands tend to do. Evidence - their website even has a Abilities Chart and a Hit List. And you can read their hilarious and juvenile News Updates.

They are often labelled as Nintendocore due to their keyboardist uses a Game Boy-like synths effects to achieve an 8-bit video game-influenced sound.

In this, one of their only music videos, they cross over a whole load of genres (indie, metal, death, dance, chip-tune, and punk) in a single song. Give it ago, don’t be put of by the sound at the beginning – it gets pretty mental.

Anyway they call themselves “The Coolest Band in the World”. I tend to agree.
They are coming to Oz again next year for Soudwave. So check them out there – or if you’d rather – check out some more of their songs, in unofficial videos, after the jump.
