Prepare for Swine Flu, with fashionable masks
The Japanese have always had a thing about masks, from the elaborate theatrical kabuki masks to the traditional oni masks that keep away bad spirits (and also seem to end up as common tattoo designs in the west). More recently though – it’s all about face masks that keep away nasty germs and viruses. You must have seen theme before, kind of like surgical masks – only probably less effective.
Of course, they don’t really compliment your attire. So bunch of creative types in Japan have made all kinds of exciting decorative and artistic versions of the masks.
One of our favourites is this, the one pictured at the top of the post – The Mt Fuji Mask designed by Yoriko Yoshida. She has a whole series of them on that site, you must see them. Here’s two more.
Other weird and wonderful ones we came accross on the interweb include:

Of course there HAD to be a Hello Kitty one.

And here’s a whole bunch for good measure. I kinda dig the Ultraman one.

i think that in asian countries the Swine Flu did not spread rapidly compared to those countries that are located in colder climates. we should still be very thankful that the swine flu did not cause massive infections.
