Turntable that makes MP3′s, looks really sweet

The Handy Trax USB is built by a Tokyo-based DJ gear manufacturer Vestax, not only plays your records but also digitizes them via a USB connection. That’s technical terminology for ‘making mp3s’.

It’s about as big as an A3 sized book, weighs about 2kg and comes with a sleek carry case – making it quite portable. It’s equipped with a probably crappy sounding mono speaker – but it has line out connections meaning you can plug it into your amp or some proper speakers.  Runs on batteries or AC adapter. Music can be digitized through the USB port (Windows or Mac).

And for those who get it, it’s worth mentioning that it has a belt driven motor, and unlike those dodgy cheap USB record players, it’s got proper speed and pitch control.

And the design? It’s beautifully simple. We want one.

They are selling for 13,800yen, and only in Japan for the moment.
