Marvel for iPad video demo
iPad - Marvel Comics from Bradford Kuntscher on Vimeo.
Well Apple’s own iBookStore, Amazon’s Kindle Store store and Zinio‘s newspapers and magazines are all great and that. But it’s the Marvel Comics App for iPad that has really got us excited.
The new app is launching with 500 of the company’s most popular titles and to celebrate the launch Marvel is offering titles like Captain America #1 and the Invicible Iron Man #1 for free, to get your started. Individual issues will cost US$1.99 and new titles will hit Marvel’s shop every week.
I can see a lot of 20 and 30 somethings, who collected comics in their younger years getting right into this. There is something nice and exciting about having a comic subscription right on your iPhone, the images would look crisp and beautiful on that Apple display. And of course, this means you don’t have to make the trek to the comic book store and deal with that damn comic book guy who always seems to judge you based on your inferior comic book choices.
Our guess is DC and Image would be coming out with something similar. Hopefully they will put something out at the same quality or better than the Marvel one. We’d love to see the DC Vertigo graphic novels on our iPads.
