Retro: Electronic Journalism

News report from 1981 – discussing a crazy new form of “electronic journalism”. This pre-internet technology is quite amusing. Still, I find it of poignant interest that this was already available to consumers in the year I was born. Apparently it took an entire two hours to download the electronic version of the newspaper over the modem....

The History of the Internet (in 8 mins)...

So you guys use it everyday, but how many of you actually know your history of the internet? I remember some of this from Year 11 Computer Studies, but this is told quite well. And it’s not long. In a mere 8 minutes it goes through all the important breakthroughs – from time-sharing to filesharing, from Arpanet to Internet. And it’s all done in nice clean black and white icons. Lovely. I quite like the way it’s presented, background ambient music nice too. The narrator isn’t bad – but the script could have been a bit tighter and a little more entertaining. Still, it’s very well done. And I love stuff like this. If there was more stuff...
