Are you going to watch THE WATCHMEN?

Okay so pretty much every geek on the internet is going mental about the imminent release of the Watchmen. Based on the critically acclaimed comic book of the same name – it’s one of the only comics that got into the prestigious Time Magazine ALL TIME 100 Novels. The film got into a big of a legal snag last year, with Fox and Warner fighting over rights. I think it ended with Warner paying Fox some large sum of money. Anyway – the good news is film is going to get released in March as planned. Although clearly appealing to fanboys, I’m guessing this is going to be a mainstream hit. Mainly due to the talent and vision...

G.I. Joe – Trailer

At DEGOURGET we’re geeky and proud of it. That’s why I’m not afraid to stand up and say hell yes the idea of a G.I. Joe movie is damn appealing. Here’s the trailer that was shown during the Super Bowl. Haters be damned, 2009 is the year of the action figure. There’s Doctor Who, Sienna Miller, the kid from third rock from the sun, the troubled white boy from the hip-hop version of dirty dancing, that Wayan’s brother who got hooked on junk with Jared Leto in Requiem for a Dream and Dennis Quaid in the 68th incarnation of his go-to role “All American Hero”. Quite possibly the greatest cast ever assembled for any film in the history...

Religulous

Political humourist Bill Maher and Borat director Larry Charles teamed up last year to make the doco Religulous. A very amusing look at the role religion plays in people’s lives and how they have come to and subsequently defended their religious stance, it’s satirical and very anti-religion but manages to be both highly amusing and thought provoking in an uncomfortable ‘how are people so fucking stupid’ kind of way. If you missed it’s theatre release, it’s being streamed for free at the Atheist Nation site. Watch the full film here via Athiest News...

Babylon A.D. is going to suck but it sure looks pretty...

I’ve got a strong feeling this move, Babylon A.D., is going to suck somewhat. Why? well its got Vin Diesel and Michelle Yeoh in it. Directed by the guy who made that horrid film Gothika. Not even GĂ©rard Depardieu can save this. Wow – way to push the whole ‘international’ cast. Still, it has pretty lights. And I kinda like this Bladerunner / Fifth Element-esque futuristic cityscape. I hope one day, we will all live in a city like this. .. with...

Beautiful Losers – Make Something from Nothing...

Thomas Campbell, Shepard Fairey, Jo Jackson, Chris Johanson, Margaret Kilgallen, Harmony Korine, Geoff McFetridge , Barry McGee, Mike Mills, Stephen Powers and Ed Templeton If you are in to graffiti, street art or are a pop culture snob – these names should ring some bells for you. If not, all the more reason to get school by this film: these are perhaps some of the most significant figures in today’s art world. Until recently, most of their stories of how they came to be was not well known – until a few years ago when artist Aaron Rose and director Joshua Leonard decided to create the documentary film Beautiful Losers. The Sidetrack Films production highlights how unrelated individuals...
